Choosing the appropriate drill bit for the hole saw holder depends on the type of hole saw (bi-metal or Carbide Cut or 3TPI) being used and on the material being cut. Drill bits come in two different lengths (short or long) and two different qualities (HSS or HM). HSS (High Speed Steel) drill bits are used for steel, wood, plaster, etc. HSS drill bits are used for both Bi-metal and CC Carbide Cut multi-purpose hole saws. HM (Hard Metal equipped) drill bits are used for masonry/LECA. HM drill bits are used together with Carbide Cut hole saws and VIKING 3TPI black hole saws.Short drills are used for bi-metal holesaws and small hard metal toothed holesaws (VIKING 3TPI black holesaw), as they have a smaller cutting depth of up to 38mm.Long drills are used for CC Carbide Cut multi-purpose holesaws because their cutting depth is greater than that of bi-metal holesaws.HSS short drills (MPD4S) are suitable for bi-metal holesaws.HSS long drills(MPD4)are suitableforCCCarbideCutmulti-purposeholesaws.HMshortdrills(MPD4SCT)are suitableforVIKING3TPImetaltoothedholesaw(HM).HMlongdrills(MPD4CT)aresuitableforCCCarbideCutmulti-purposeholesawwhen cutting through masonry/LECA.So choose a holderand remember to add an appropriate drillingbit ifthe onein the holder does not fit the hole saw and material being cut. A Carbide Cut hole saw for cutting wood/plaster requires an HSS drill bit, which should also be long because the hole saw has a greater cutting depth.Product family: The size of the holesaw determines whether the holder should be large or small. A small holder is used for holesaws smaller than Ø32mm, while a large holder is used for holesaws from Ø32mm and up. The holders come with a short HSS drill bit that fits all HSS Bi-Metal holesaws.
