Über die zusätzliche CPU-Einheit ist es dem Anwender möglich, RouterOS auf dem Gerät zu betreiben. Es ist also möglich, einige sehr sinnvolle RouterOS-Funktionen auf dem Switch zu betreiben, über die ein reiner Switch nicht verfügt.
Die "Dual-Boot"-Funktion erlaubt es einem vom Start weg auszuwählen, welches Betriebssystem man bevorzugt. Wenn man nur die Switching-Eigenschaften benötigt, ist es natürlich sinnvoll SwOS zu nutzen.
Mit diesem Gerät hält man alle Funktionalitäten eines managebaren Switches in Händen und darüber hinaus auch mehr: Port-to-Port Forwarding, MAC Filter, VLANs, Mirror Traffic, Bandbreitenbeschränkungen, Anpassung von MAC und IP-Headern.
