Mikrotiks hEX S ist ein Router mit fünf Gigabit Ethernet Ports, geeignet für all jene Bereiche, wo Wlan-Konnektivität nicht benötigt wird. Verglichen mit dem hEX, stellt der hEX S eine zusätzlichen SFP-Port, sowie PoE-Output (Passive PoE up to 57 V) bereit.
Er ist preislich attraktiv, klein und einfach zu nutzen, verfügt aber trotzdem über eine leistungsstarken Dual Core 880 MHz CPU, 256 MB RAM und ist für alle anspruchsvollen Konfigurationen einsetzbar, die RouterOS unterstützt. Das Gerät verfügt zudem über einen USB 2.0 Port, PoE output auf Ethernet Port 5 und einen Schacht für 1.25 Gbit/s SFP.
IPsec hardware encryption (-470 Mbps) und The Dude server package werden unterstützt, zudem bietet der microSD Slot verbesserte Schreib-/Lese-Geschwindigkeit für Dateispeicher und den Dude.
